Volunteer trips

Free trips in and around the New York Harbor available exclusively for our volunteers

Some of the trips we offer our volunteers

Red Hook

This trip is great for beginners and fun for all. We start at Pier 2 and paddle south through Buttermilk Channel and around the Brooklyn waterfront to Valentino Pier in Red Hook. Volunteers are free to paddle around the pier or head into Red Hook for Steve’s Key Lime Pies, Ample Hills Ice Cream or a Fairway food run.

Newtown Creek

This is an intermediate trip paddling up the East River. We pass under the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges taking in the waterfront sights like Jane's Carousel, the Navy Yard Basin, Main St., East River State Park, and WNYC Transmitter Parks along the way. We stop at the North Brooklyn Boat Club where we dock our boats and grab a bite at Lobster Joint or Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory before catching the currents back to Pier 2.

City of Water Day

This trip includes camping overnight on Governors Island and is an experience available only to a few waterfront organizations. We paddle from Pier 2 to Governors Island, participate in cardboard kayak contest and end the day with stargazing and BBQ. The next morning we paddle back to Pier 2. Those who don’t want to kayak can join by taking the ferry over.
